This dress is basically a party in itself.
It’s been almost a week, so I should probably mention that I had a really good time at my birthday dinner and karaoke party on Sunday. There were pretty long waits between songs, unfortunately, but I still sang several numbers, and then I got the greatest gift of all: I realized that there was a blacklight in the bar.

We couldn’t get a really sharp photo, but how awesome is that? My dress! My earrings! MY HAIR. Only my boots were really non-reactive:

But seriously, how awesome are those boots with that dress? It’s like they were made for each other. Matt recently remarked that I have so many clothes at this point that it’s statistically improbable for anything I buy now NOT to go with something I already own, but he is just jealous of my shopping-fu. You can tell.
On a related note: Happy birthday, fellow sociologist blogger Marc! I hope you had a great birthday, even if you didn’t get to glow in the dark.

That dress is super cute. Let’s move back to 1969 and you can be a world famous go-go dancer and I will be your agent/manager.

Do you use special effects atomic pink? That’s what I use, and I had completely forgotten that it glowed until I went to Burning Man and my friend was like “Your hair is glowing!” and I was like “Huh. Interesting. I didn’t know it did that.”

Okay, that settles it. I need blacklight reactive hair. That is the coolest thing ever.

Holy Shit Batman! I must admit I have never seen anything quite like this.
And I want your fucking boots, bitch.

This is my daughter. She glows in the dark. I’m quietly proud.

Thanks for the greetings! Not only did I not glow in the dark on Friday, but I practically *sat* in the dark. We were under a wind advisory, and it was overcast and raining. You know the sort of Chicago wind-rain-by-the-lake where an umbrella does no good. So we stayed in and watched the third season to Arrested Development.
For some reason I’m most impressed by your earrings! They pull together the radioactive ensemble somehow.

Travis: Ha! Awesome. You know the reason I loved Down With Love so much was the awesome 1960s period costumes…
Cyn: Yes! It is Atomic Pink. I think I had also heard, and forgotten, that it was blacklight-reactive–some of their other colors are, too, right? I know my hair was very blacklight-reactive when it was just bleach blonde, too.
Suzie: Hee, thanks. It IS pretty awesome. :p
Jenn: The boots are GOGO-300 3″ Heel Stretch Knee Boot, Available in 22 Colors by Spike Angel, and they’re still 50% off list price at Amazon.
Dad: Aw, thanks.
Marc: Ha! Thanks for noticing. They were a find at Claire’s, and I was amazed when I got the dress and realized how perfectly THEY went with it, too. Sorry about the birthday bad weather. You get kind of used to it having a November birthday, I guess. I know I did. California’s November 6 weather was an aberration in my birthday experience. :p
