I’m so domestic.
Tuesday, March 28th, 2006This weekend I almost bought a carousel bundt pan at Tellus Mater–it makes a bundt cake with a carousel relief, little horses and unicorns and stuff. I drool over this bundt pan every time I go in there. It is $28, which is not a totally outrageous price for a fancy bundt pan, and certainly a cost that I could absorb, but the real issue is that I don’t actually like cake very much. More to the point, I don’t like cake enough to ever want to eat it, given its caloric content. I prefer other baked goods, or ice cream, or cheese. Cake: just not worth it to me.
So basically, all I would do with a carousel bundt pan is make like two cakes a year for potluck-type affairs, and people would not be as impressed as I would want them to be. And I have a horrible tiny kitchen. So I didn’t buy it.
I didn’t buy the scone pans they sell, either, because that is just fucking ridiculous. What, you can’t separate dough into pieces and put them on a baking sheet? I don’t care if it’s sticky; just make fucking drop scones.
Speaking of which, recently my father sent me the Weight Watchers Cookbook, which contains several scone recipes in the baked goods section. I’ve tried two of them; the savory cheddar scones actually work very well substituting unsweetened applesauce for butter (the dough was too dry with butter), but the Classic Scones are just AMAZING. I modified that recipe, too, but only slightly, and I was extremely pleased with the results. So, if you’re interested…
